“Believe in Something” from Towson believed he would win Racetrax and did!

Fan uses special birthdays to win big prize

There’s an inspirational saying, “Believe in something or fall for anything.” That saying rang true for a Towson Racetrax player who believed he would win big in his favorite Maryland Lottery game one day. That special day came last week.

Calling himself “Believe in Something” for his Lottery publicity nickname, the lucky player is glad he stayed true to his belief that a big win was on its way. Lottery luck was by his side when he placed a Superfecta Box wager at J Convenience in Parkville. The 60-year-old used family birthdays for his numbers and bet on horses 6, 9, 10 and 12 for 10 drawings.

“Those numbers came out a couple of months ago,” said the winner. “I believed they would come out again, so I played them.”

“Believe in Something” didn’t stick around to watch the races. He continued running errands and checked the ticket on his phone using the Lottery App later that day. The message that everyone wants to see, “You’re a Winner,” popped up! The happy man took a screenshot of the message and texted it to his wife.

“It was very exciting,” said his wife, who accompanied “Believe in Something” to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize. “I replied with the ‘Wow’ emoji.”

The couple signed the winning ticket and put it away. They went on to enjoy an eventful weekend with a friend’s wedding on Saturday and Baltimore Ravens football on Sunday. “Believe in Something,” a huge Ravens fan, joined his friends at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday and watched the Ravens win a big game against Houston.

“I couldn’t ask for a better weekend,” he said, smiling. “I get to celebrate my win and the Ravens win, too.”

The lucky player said this win came at the right time and he plans to use most of the prize toward bills.

Getting a bonus from the Lottery for its winning sale is J Convenience located at 8765 Satyr Hill Road in Baltimore County. The Parkville retailer earns a bonus of $244.52 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
