Superfecta Quick Pick bet delivers big prize
Chauncey Cline told his wife, Jessie, that he would stop by the grocery store on his way home from work last Thursday, but then he hit a ton of traffic and had second thoughts.
“I called her and told her about the traffic and she said that I didn’t need to stop,” Chauncey said.
In the end, the Silver Spring resident decided to go to the store anyway after making a pit stop on the way. The stop was to purchase his regular Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets from Aspen Hill Lottery, Beer & Wine in Silver Spring. After paying with a $20 bill, he received $1 back and decided to buy a Quick Pick Racetrax Superfecta ticket.
“I stood there watching the screen during the race,” the salesman said. “I saw the 2, 5 and 10 horses came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I knew I had a winner, but when I saw the 11 horse came in 4th, I knew it was a big win. Timing really does mean everything. Had I not hit that traffic, I wouldn’t have been at the store at that time.”
The 60-year-old stayed calm and quiet in the liquor store, but quickly called his wife of 16 years when he left. He continued on to the grocery store, where he again called his wife.
“He said he couldn’t find anything he was looking for,” said a smiling Jessie. “He was just so excited.”
The happy Montgomery County residents, who grinned from ear to ear while at Lottery headquarters, are parents of three and grandparents of five. With their winnings, they plan to pay bills, help family members and treat themselves to a nice dinner.
