Wins $50,000 playing Hit The Jackpot scratch game
Bad traffic that wrecked a Gaithersburg man’s plans to visit his mom on his birthday set him on a collision course with good fortune: a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket worth $50,000.
“My girlfriend and I were rushing to see my mom before the evening got too late,” said the 32-year-old father of four. “She likes me to visit on my birthday. We realized that we weren’t going to make it because of the traffic, so we turned around.”
By then, the hour was late. They were about to pass a convenience store when his girlfriend suggested stopping in to buy a Lottery ticket. Our winner, an occasional scratch-off player, had enjoyed playing the Hit The Jackpot scratch-off game in the past so he bought a $20 ticket and took it home to play in the morning.
“I scratched it when I woke up, rubbing off the numbers but not the prizes,” he said. After noticing one match, then another, then several more, he could resist no longer. He scratched the prize amounts, seeing the $50,000 total.
“My mind went blank,” he said. “I started trembling.”
He plans to dedicate some of his winnings to his landscaping business. Our winner found his Lottery luck at the 7-Eleven at 3 Professional Drive in Gaithersburg. There are six Hit The Jackpot $50,000 winners still in stores, as well as three of the game’s $1 million top prizes.
