Discovers $5 game’s $100,000 top prize
A Delaware man traveling back to his roost after visiting family members in Maryland carried home a very lucky memento – a $100,000 winning Maryland Lottery Ravens scratch-off.
The 57-year-old found the game’s top prize at Broadneck Exxon in Annapolis when he stopped for gas and a snack to enjoy during his long drive home. While there, the Rehoboth Beach resident decided to purchase several $5 scratch-offs as well.
After arriving home, the retiree started to unwind and began scratching off his Ravens instant tickets. “After scratching a few of the tickets, I noticed on the third one that it was saying that I was a winner,” he said. “The ticket was saying I won the $100,000 top prize. I said, ‘Oh my gosh!’ to myself.”
The lucky player bought the Ravens scratch-offs because he’s a big fan of the Baltimore Ravens team. He said he also liked the fact that you could possibly win $100,000 on a $5 ticket.
He told Lottery officials that he’d equally split his prize with his two daughters and their families. “With my portion, I’ll just continue to keep saving for my retirement,” he said. “You can never have enough cash when you retire. This definitely gives me a little cushion.”
The popular Ravens instant ticket, which debuted in July, still has three $100,000 top prizes and four $50,000 second-tier prizes remaining. The game is also packed with thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $5 to $10,000. And, there’s still time for players to enter non-winning Ravens scratch-offs into a second-chance contest with prizes of $10,000 cash, 2017 season tickets or the cash AND finalist status for a future drawing for Ravens season tickets for 20 years. The entry deadline is Jan. 16 through My Lottery Rewards. Find out more at ravens.mdlottery.com.
Broadneck Exxon, the lucky retailer, also is a winner. For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, the Anne Arundel County business located at 317 Busch’s Frontage Road in Annapolis will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
