Trip to Buy Ice Leads to Cool $50,000 Scratch-off Prize!

Fan claims winning instant ticket on Gold Rush X100 game

A spontaneous trip to buy ice to chill beverages led to a cool surprise for a Glen Burnie man. The lucky player’s decision to fill his cooler contributed to his $50,000 win in the Gold Rush X100 game.

While in line at Chesapeake Liquors in Glen Burnie to pay for the ice, the winner saw the man in front of him buy several of the Maryland Lottery’s Ravens scratch-offs. He decided to add three Gold Rush X100 scratch-offs to his ice purchase.

The next morning, the Anne Arundel County resident remembered his scratch-offs and started playing the $20 games. The loyal player initially thought he won $500, but then he read the instructions on how to play the game. His prize was actually $50,000!

The 57-year-old immediately told his wife about his fantastic win and signed the back of the scratch-off. He arrived at Lottery headquarters Monday morning to claim his prize.

His winnings will go toward family gatherings. His daughter is getting married next year and the happy dad plans to spend some of the prize on her nuptials. He’s also planning to devote some of the windfall to an upcoming family vacation.

The Gold Rush x100 game, which is one of five in the Gold Rush family of scratch-off games, is still packed with prizes. Players can hunt for six unclaimed $1,000,000 top prizes and 10 more $50,000 prizes. Other games in this fun family are the $1 Gold Rush x5, $2 Gold Rush x10, $5 Gold Rush x20 and $10 Gold Rush x50 scratch-offs. Stop by the winner’s lucky retailer, Chesapeake Liquors at 6720 Governor Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, to buy scratch-offs and make your summer instantly better, too!
