Claims $50,000 top prize on Holiday Lucky Times 10 game
A Suitland woman is still smiling about the surprise she discovered hidden beneath one of the gift boxes on her Holiday Lucky Times 10 scratch-off ticket. The cancer survivor revealed a $50,000 prize, which will enable her to pay off all of her medical bills.
“I am so grateful,” said the 56-year-old mother of four who has twice beaten breast cancer and is still paying medical debts. “I feel like I have beaten the odds again.”
A human resources manager for a nursing rehabilitation center, our winner found her Lottery luck at Freddie’s Liquors in Forestville. She popped into Freddie’s, her favorite Lottery retailer, on Black Friday to pick up a scratch-off to play later at home. Her favorite game is the $5 Holiday Lucky Times 10 instant ticket, which went on sale at Lottery retailers on Oct. 26 and has delivered several small wins in the past. “Not this much!” she said with a big smile.
The Prince George’s County resident settled down at home with the scratch-off and right away matched one of the winning numbers. Only then did she scratch off the gift box and spot the $50,000 prize.
“I was actually shaking,” she said. “I said to myself, ‘Let me get my glasses to check what I’m seeing.’”
Still not believing her eyes, she ran to her sleeping husband.
“I said, ‘Wake up! Wake up! Look at this, tell me this is right,’” she said. “He immediately popped up and checked the ticket.”
They decided they did indeed have a winner and hid the instant ticket all weekend until she could claim her prize at Lottery headquarters.
The grandmother of two plans to pay off her medical bills and put the rest of the prize in the bank. She’s going to surprise her adult children with the news – and maybe a little something special – when they get together over the holidays.
Her lucky retailer also shares in the fun. Freddie’s Liquors, located at 7700 Marlboro Pike in Forestville, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket. One more $50,000 winning ticket is still awaiting discovery in area stores, along with seven $5,000 winning tickets and others with prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
