Laurel woman claims top prize on Lucky 7s Tripler scratch-off
A twice-lucky Maryland Lottery player is thanking a “Lucky Family” for her family’s new top-prize scratch-off win. The Laurel woman scored big when she purchased a $5 scratch-off in the popular Lucky 7s family of games.
The 35-year-old discovered her purchase was worth $57,777 when she scratched off a Lucky 7s Tripler instant ticket shortly after its purchase.
The loyal player, who goes by the nickname “Lovita,” explained how her errands turned into her second brush with Lottery luck. The magic happened when the Prince George’s County resident stopped to fill up her gas tank at a local business.
She pulled out some scratch-offs she had purchased earlier at Town Center Liquors in Laurel and started fueling her vehicle. While waiting, “Lovita” scratched the Lucky 7s Tripler instant ticket until she revealed a shamrock symbol. When she saw the lucky symbol, “Lovita” knew that she had won but expected only a small prize. As she revealed more of the scratch-off, the amount of her win kept growing until she had uncovered a $57,777 top prize.
This is the second time “Lovita” enjoyed a big Lottery win. She pocketed a $10,000 prize not long ago.
“We were able to use our previous win to pay off our car, but this win is going to allow us to buy the house we are currently renting. This is truly a blessing for our family,” said “Lovita.”
The Lucky 7s Tripler is one of four scratch-offs in the Lucky 7s family of games that launched in May. The games offer price points of $1, $2, $5 and $10 with top prizes ranging from $777 to $77,777. “Lovita’s” win leaves the Lucky 7’s Tripler game with five remaining $57,777 top prizes.
The site of her purchase, Town Center Liquors located at 13334 Laurel-Bowie Road, also has reason to celebrate. For selling the top-prize winning scratch-off, the Lottery retailer will receive a bonus of $577.77.
Lottery officials recommend that winners sign the back of winning tickets and keep them in a safe place until claiming the prize. Winners typically get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. However, the Lottery has temporarily extended claiming deadlines due to Maryland’s COVID-19 state of emergency.
Winners can claim the prize by mail or in person by appointment at the Lottery Customer Resource Center. Get details on how to claim by mail here or schedule an appointment here.
