Uber Driver’s Destination: Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle

A 41-year-old Uber driver who bought several Maryland Lottery scratch-offs while visiting a Silver Spring convenience store made his next stop Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The Prince George’s County resident is the state’s newest millionaire, thanks to his $1 million top-prize win on the Ultimate Riches scratch-off.

The excited scratch-off fan, who has driven for Uber for more than two years, found his lucky instant ticket at State Line Market in Silver Spring.

“After I got my tickets, I figured I’d scratch them right in the store,” he said. “I must have scratched down to the third or fourth line when I noticed that my number matched the million dollar prize number. At first, I thought it was a faulty ticket or someone was playing a joke on me but then I realized that I won real big. I’m still a little surprised over it.”

The lucky Lottery winner is no stranger to winning. Last August, he won $10,000 playing a 50X the Cash scratch-off.

The happy millionaire has house hunting on his to-do list along with a much-needed vacation with a few close family members. “I work a lot of hours so it feels amazing that I can slow things down a bit by not working as much,” he said.

The $20 Ultimate Riches instant ticket still has six $1 million remaining top prizes along with eight $50,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $20 to $10,000. The top prize is payable by cash or annuity; the winner took the cash option.
