Sun, surf and scratch-off fun in Ocean City put a $50,000 winning Monopoly instant ticket into the hands of Amanda Kapaldo of Pennsylvania.
Ocean City visitor finds top-prize-winning Monopoly scratch-off
A girls’ weekend and a wedding brought Amanda Kapaldo to Ocean City for good times with friends and end-of-summer fun in the sun and surf. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would go home $50,000 richer after scratching off a Maryland Lottery Monopoly instant ticket!
Amanda and a friend had decided to stop at a 7-Eleven in Ocean City on their way back from dropping a friend’s car seat off at their hotel. Together, the pair went into the store and bought a few of the Lottery’s low-priced instant tickets. They both scratched their tickets in the store, winning a few dollars.
“We probably won something like $6,” said her friend, who accompanied the happy winner to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the big prize. “Then, Amanda pulled out $10 and asked for two Monopoly tickets. I just looked at her and said, ‘Look at you, Miss Moneybags.’ ”
With the Monopoly scratch-offs in hand, Amanda and her friend walked next door to a pub for a drink.
“I started scratching the ticket and didn’t really know what I was looking for,” Amanda explained. “I saw the treasure chest symbol and I saw the prize, but I wasn’t sure.”
In shock, the 30-year-old gripped her friend and showed her the ticket. Together, the two quickly left the pub and went back to their hotel.
Amanda stopped by Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore on the way home to Imperial, Pennsylvania, where she lives with her husband. She plans to put the money toward the new house they recently purchased.
