Unusual Feeling Signals Manchester Man’s Second $50,000 Win

Discovered Second Bonus Match 5 Jackpot Win on Sleepless Night

A ticket misunderstanding led to a Manchester resident’s last jackpot. This week, there was no mistake when the retired Maryland State Police sergeant put the collar on a second $50,000 win on the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game.

It was nearly five years ago when the 72-year-old winner reluctantly purchased an extra ticket the store cashier mistakenly printed. That very ticket won him the $50,000 jackpot. Since then, the man has played a combination of his own numbers and Quick Pick purchased from several Manchester-area stores.

On Sunday, he purchased his usual tickets from the usual locations and just couldn’t shake an unusual feeling. “I was having a terrible time sleeping. Something was bugging me,” said the man. “I was shaking and nervous. It was really strange.”

At 1:30 a.m., he got up, flipped on the lights and decided to check the tickets he had purchased earlier that day. Moments later, he saw all five of the numbers on his ticket matched the Bonus Match 5 numbers drawn Sunday evening.

The lucky man says the winnings will most likely go into savings and he may use a portion of the prize to surprise his wife with new stainless-steel appliances.

He bought the winning ticket at the Weis Market grocery store located on Hanover Pike in Hampstead.
