Takes home $100,000 in new game
Luther Smith, a 67-year-old retiree from Upper Marlboro, is $100,000 richer all because he was $2 shy of the cash he needed to get his daily Pick 3 and Pick 4 numbers.
He headed to his local bank machine on his lucky day and withdrew enough money to buy his daily numbers and two of The Big $10 Ticket scratch-offs. Luther bought his games at Bossy’s Liquors in Upper Marlboro, which is his favorite retailer. “Bossy’s is a great place for us retirees to go hang out, meet friends, and get our daily numbers in,” he said.
While sitting in his truck outside of the store, the avid Lottery player decided to scratch off The Big $10 Ticket games.
“The first one I scratched wasn’t a winner,” he said. “When I started scratching the last ticket, I noticed that it said I won $100,000! I was so shocked. That’s when I got out of my truck and went back inside Bossy’s to scan my tickets on the ticket scanner. It told me to head straight to Lottery headquarters to claim my $100,000 prize.”
He found the first top prize in the game, which went on sale Nov. 28. Luther is certainly no stranger to winning. The Prince George’s County resident won $10,000 a few years ago playing Pick 4. This $100,000 top-prize win will enable Luther to give his granddaughter and great-grandson a wonderful holiday this year.
“I also plan to get a little work done to the house with the winnings,” he said. “It’s sure going to be a great Christmas this year!”
Also celebrating the top-prize win is his lucky retailer. Bossy’s Liquors located at 16001 Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
