Upperco Woman Hides Winning Scratch-off in Pockets for Days

Hit The JackpotClaims $10,000 prize on Maryland Lottery Hit the Jackpot scratch-off

Where’s the safest place to hide a $10,000 winning Maryland Lottery scratch-off for a few days? Your pocket, perhaps?

The answer is yes, if you’re a busy Upperco grandmother. She won the $10,000 third-tier prize on the Hit the Jackpot winning ticket on a Thursday and simply couldn’t get to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore until the following Monday. Her Baltimore County community is so small, our winner said, that she has only told about five people about her win for fear of word getting out. In fact, she even left the High’s store at 15303 Hanover Pike in Upperco where she bought a newspaper and the $20 ticket before she finished scratching off the ticket! She saw that she’d won more than $100 and still had rows and rows of numbers to reveal.

“I thought, ‘Oh, oh, I’d better get out of here,” she recalled, smiling as she sat in the Winner’s Lounge at Lottery headquarters with her husband and a friend. She scratched off the rest of the ticket at home and kept mum about her win for days. This is her first big Lottery win and she’s still not sure how she’ll spend her prize, she said.

Lots of winning tickets remain on sale for this game. Waiting for discovery are a dozen $10,000 winning tickets, a trio of $50,000 winners and one $1 million winner.
