Usual Keno Player Wins Unusually Large Prize

Mt. Ranier man claims $60,000 Keno win with Super Bonus option

A grateful Prince George’s County resident came to Lottery headquarters this afternoon to claim an unusually large Keno prize — $60,000.  The man, who plays the game regularly, has had a few smaller wins in the past, but said, “I have never won anything this big.  This is unbelievable.”

The lucky winner told Lottery officials that he regularly goes to his neighborhood bar and restaurant after work to relax and play some Keno.  “We all know each other there,” he said.  On Tuesday evening, he did what he usually does. He got a beer, bought a Keno ticket with the Super Bonus option and started to watch the numbers appear on the screen.  “The Super Bonus was 6X, which is a good start,” he said.  “I started seeing the numbers on my ticket pop up and stood still until the game ended.  I couldn’t believe it.”  The man said he plays so often that he knew immediately exactly how much he won.

The winner is planning to pay for some much-needed repairs on his car and his house and will save the rest of his prize money.  The single-electronics professional said that money is tight and he’s relieved to have some discretionary funds available should “anything unexpected pop up.”  He was also going to spend a little bit of it on a celebratory bottle of Champagne over dinner with a friend.

The winning ticket was sold at Town Hall Tavern at 8135 Baltimore Blvd. in College Park.
