Harford County resident wins top-prize on holiday game
Following up on a strange feeling on a warm winter day brought luck to a Harford County woman, who won a cool $100,000 top prize on a Winter Ice Multiplier scratch-off.
“I still can’t believe this happened,” said the married player. “I feel like this is all a dream. I know that I’m sitting here in front of you, but it’s still unbelievable!”
Nicknamed “Cheers!” for her Lottery publicity, the Bel Air woman was shopping when she noticed a favorite liquor store was next door. She decided to stop by and say hi. “Cheers!” told Lottery officials that she and her husband like Cheers Wine & Spirits in Bel Air because of its friendly atmosphere and nice employees.
Once inside, “Cheers!” couldn’t resist the temptation of the stunning and eye-catching instant tickets on display. The combination of a strange feeling, the unseasonably warm winter day and the temptation to try to win big had the 54-year-old sold on buying a Winter Ice Multiplier scratch-off.
“I think we won on this exact ticket or a similar one seven years ago,” she said. “We won only $10,000 back then.”
After saying “hello” to everyone and purchasing the instant ticket, “Cheers!” rushed to the car to scratch off the $10 game. “I was scratching the ticket in my car and noticed that my number matched one of the winning numbers. I started to scratch the ticket to see how much I won,” she said. “I noticed the letter ‘D’ so I said to myself, ‘OK, it might either be a hundred or a thousand.’ ”
Then, she realized she won the game’s $100,000 top prize! “I was shaking and had to call my husband,” she said.
They plan to use some of the prize to pay off their car and will save the rest for future endeavors. Joining “Cheers!” in this win is Cheers Wine & Spirits in Bel Air. The store located at 615 Baltimore Pike will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off.
