Washington D.C. Woman Walks into $50,000 Win

Takes home $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize

A Washington D.C. woman was on her way home from work last Thursday when she decided to stop and pick up a Bonus Match 5 ticket. After selecting a combination of her favorite numbers and a couple Quick Picks, she put the tickets away without another thought. There was no buyer’s remorse once the woman realized her ticket was worth a cool $50,000.

The lucky winner decided to check her tickets on Saturday after the drawing, hoping to have won a couple dollars. Staring back at her on the scanner were instructions to go up to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I’m just so thankful,” the woman said about her win. “I’ve been keeping this ticket safe until I was able to bring in the ticket to claim. I felt like everyone knew I had won and was staring at me.”

The woman, who helps taking care of the elderly, still can’t believe her good fortune. “When I play, I get excited about winning $50,” she said. “For me to win $50,000 is just unreal.”

The generous woman plans to use the money to pay a few bills and help others. “A close friend of mine recently had a stroke, so I would really like to help them. I also want to look out for my niece who is at Frostburg,” she said. The winning ticket was purchased at National Harbor Sunoco at 111 North Cove Terrace in Oxon Hill.
