Washington, D.C. Woman Wins $100,000 Maryland Lottery Prize

Claims top prize on Super Crossword scratch-off

Last Saturday, a Washington, D.C. woman stopped at Convenience Express in Silver Spring to purchase some of her favorite scratch-offs. An avid fan of crossword and bingo games, she purchased a Super Crossword ticket that turned out to be a $100,000 top-prize winner.

It took the 57-year-old a few glances to determine how much she won on the extended-play ticket.

“At first, I thought it was worth $1,000,” the mother and grandmother told Lottery officials. “Then, I found another word and thought it was $10,000. Soon, I realized it was a $100,000 winner!”

The excited player brought her brother and sister-in-law with her to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Although she does not have any immediate plans for her winnings, the lucky woman said she plans to save most of it.

Convenience Express, located at 948 Wayne Ave. in Silver Spring, wins too! For selling the top-prize ticket, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus. The Super Crossword game still has four $100,000 top prizes remaining, 23 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000. The $10 game went on sale Dec. 27.
