Claims $50,000 top prize on Hit It Big scratch-off
Wedding bells can ring a little louder and longer for Lionel “Wes” Butler of Parkton, who found a $50,000 Lottery fortune when he decided to catch a ride home after work with his new fiancé. On the way, they stopped at Woodbrook Exxon in Baltimore to fuel up. The engaged man walked in the retailer’s door to find Lottery luck waiting.
Wes cashed in a few winning scratch-offs and purchased a few more, including a $20 Hit It Big instant ticket. What happened next made the 31-year-old plumber scream with joy. He realized that he had indeed hit it big with one of the scratch-off’s six $50,000 prizes.
“I got so excited that I started pounding the inside of my fiancé’ car, which made her a tad bit angry,” he said with a chuckle. “She quickly got over it, though, once she found out what I had won. Once I realized it, I started getting that butterfly feeling in my stomach and my heart started racing. It was an amazing feeling.”
The excited player is enjoying a winning streak. He won $888 on a scratch-off a few weeks ago and several $500 prizes earlier this year. The Baltimore County man told Lottery officials that this big prize will help him give his fiancé the kind of wedding she deserves. “We’re getting married soon and this win will definitely cover some of the cost,” he said.
Wes is the second person to win a $50,000 prize on the ticket, which launched in June. All three $1 million top prizes are unclaimed. To visit his lucky store, stop by the Exxon at 6201 North Charles Street in Baltimore.
