Laura Young of Martinsburg, W.Va., found exactly what she was looking for on a Maryland Lottery Crossword scratch-off — the $30,000 top prize!
The 43-year-old was in town visiting her fiancé, who is a Baltimore resident, when she stopped in at the Quick Mart on Wise Avenue to play her favorite Lottery game.
“I like the scratch-offs that are a longer game to play, so Crossword is my favorite right now,” said Laura. She bought the instant ticket on a Sunday and did not play it until Sept. 29. “I like to buy a couple and leave them in my purse until I’m bored or have some downtime.”
Imagine the lucky lady’s surprise when her fun way to pass the time on a Saturday afternoon turned into a $30,000 win! “I couldn’t believe it, and I honestly didn’t totally believe it until I came here this morning and the ticket was confirmed,” she told Lottery officials.
Laura found 10 words on her Crossword scratch-off, which was exactly how many she needed to get the game’s top prize. She plans to pay off her car and use the rest of her winnings to help with her upcoming move to her fiancé’s house.
The lucky retailer that sold Laura the ticket is a winner, too! For selling a scratch-off with a $30,000 top prize, the Quick Mart located at 7900 Wise Avenue in Baltimore earns a $300 bonus from the Lottery! This is equal to 1 percent of the prize. Players can find plenty of prizes remaining in the $3 game including five more $30,000 top prizes.
