Mount Savage resident wins playing $1,000,000 Platinum Play game

A 46-year-old Mount Savage man is one happy guy after winning $10,000 on the $1,000,000 Platinum Play scratch-off. He was aiming for the $1 million top prize but took home $10,000, with pleasure!

“I bought that ticket, because I want to be a millionaire,” said Thomas Morgan, chuckling. “But, I was still very happy about $10,000.”

Thomas purchased the game while running errands for his father at Sheetz #167 located at 100 East Main Street in Corriganville. His dad always tells him to keep the change, so Thomas used the $20 left over to buy a scratch-off. The lucky Western Maryland resident selected the $1,000,000 Platinum Play scratch-off because he thinks the odds of winning are better on higher-priced games. He scratched the instant ticket off in his car while still in the parking lot and discovered the big win.

“I like to scratch the winning numbers first and then the prizes,” he said. “There was a winning prize under each number.” And, after adding up all of the amounts, his prize climbed to $10,000! “I added it three times,” he said.

Even though Thomas knew he had a winning scratch-off, he still double-checked its prize inside the Sheetz at the scanner and again with the store manager. Thomas shared the news with his dad, wife and best friend and then made plans to claim the $10,000 prize. He didn’t get much sleep the night before his trip to Baltimore because he was thinking about his good fortune.

The happy winner claimed the prize Monday afternoon with his best friend by his side. For sharing the 2½-hour ride from Western Maryland to Baltimore, his friend will enjoy a nice dinner on Thomas, the winner said. He plans to pay off bills with his prize.
