Westminster Couple Claims $1 Million Powerball Prize

A Westminster family visited Lottery Headquarters today, almost a week after winning a $1 million second-tier Powerball prize from last Saturday’s drawing.  The husband and wife team purchased their big winner while out bowling with friends. The duo didn’t realize their  great windfall until well after the drawing.

On Monday the winner’s sister called to ask if she had purchased any Powerball tickets while they had been out the past weekend. “My sister called me at work because the bowling alley had sold a $1 million winner,” reported the woman. “I had the ticket with me so she read off the numbers.”

The heating company employee could barely contain her glee as her sister read off the numbers on her ticket. “My co-worker didn’t know what was going on, I just got so excited – right there in the office.  I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

The woman had to leave work to show her husband the ticket after he refused to believe her on the phone. Looking back, the man, who works for a construction company, had to laugh at the situation. “We went shopping with a $1 million ticket in our wallet last week, worried about how much we were going to spend.”

For now the couple plans to use their winnings to grow their retirement fund and to help with their high school-aged son’s college fund. Their good fortune found them at the Thunderhead Bowl & Grill at 4337 Old Taneytown Road in Taneytown.
