Wins $50,000 Lucky Streak Scratch-off Top Prize
When Laura Thomas of Westminster purchased scratch-offs back in December, she was faced with the difficult decision of which ticket to pick. After looking at all of the scratch-offs in the machine, she made the life-changing decision of purchasing three Lucky Streak tickets, knowing they were her son Robert’s favorite. The 59-year-old woman could barely believe her luck when she uncovered the $50,000 top prize.
The woman, who works for a tax service company, knew something was strange on her ticket after she uncovered the first $5,000. “I was so flustered as soon as I finished checking the ticket,” Thomas said. “I immediately took some pictures, mailed them to my brother in Ohio and got a safe deposit box to keep it in. It was the best $30 I’ve ever spent.”
Her good fortune came a week after a friend won $30,000 playing a scratch-off. “I’m so happy for this win, but I really wish my son could’ve won,” she said. “He’s the one that always plays this ticket; I really wish this could’ve happened to him.”
For now Thomas plans to trade-in her old car which has over 270,000 miles on it for a new Honda CR-V. “I almost feel guilty getting rid of my old car because it still works fine, but a new car will give me good peace of mind,” she told Lottery officials. The winning ticket was purchased at College Square Liquors at 444 WMC Drive in Westminster Boton Hill Food Center at 111 Park Avenue in Baltimore City.
