“Big Joe” bags a big one! This Laurel man won the first $50,000 top prize on the $500 Frenzy scratch-off game.
Finds first top prize on $500 Frenzy game
A lucky Laurel man who played a $500 Frenzy scratch-off endured a storm of emotions in the aftermath of his $50,000 top-prize win. The 44-year-old was swept up by the excitement of finding the first top-prize winning scratch-off in the $5 game.
The player known as “Big Joe,” who wished to remain anonymous, said finding the winning instant ticket was simply luck of the draw. The loyal Maryland Lottery player stopped at a 7-Eleven in Rockville and decided to buy two $500 Frenzy tickets after observing another player doing so.
As the Prince George’s County resident scratched off one of the two instant tickets, he revealed a moneybag emblem and then the prize amount. The seasoned player shared the exciting result with the clerk before quickly exiting the store.
Since emigrating from Ghana, the lucky winner has worked for nearly two decades as an inventory manager for a Jaguar car dealer. Although he packs the sales lots with luxury cars, the winner drives a modest economy car on his daily commute.
The lucky scratch-off is “Big Joe’s” biggest win to date. He plans to use his prize to take better care of himself and his family. “This is my time now,” said “Big Joe.”
Could the next winning Frenzy ticket be yours? Players can visit the site of “Big Joe’s” recent luck by visiting 7-Eleven #29763 at 11530 Rockville Pike in Rockville. The Montgomery County store will also share in the fun of the lucky sale by receiving a $500 retailer bonus from the Lottery. Retailers receive bonuses for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off of $20,000 or more.
A member of the Lottery’s Frenzy family of games, the $500 Frenzy instant ticket is joined by the $1 $50 Frenzy, $2 $100 Frenzy and $10 $1,000 Frenzy scratch-offs. The game has seven more $50,000 top prizes, eight $5,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
