Winner Yells ‘Yahtzee’ After Big Scratch-Off Win

Lucky Lottery fan claims Yahtzee™ game’s first top prize of $50,000

Yahtzee players know that you shake the game’s dice, check out your score and shout “Yahtzee” when all five dice roll to the same number. That’s what a Maryland Lottery player could do, too, after winning the $50,000 top prize on the $5 Yahtzee™ scratch-off.

A trip to a Suitland convenience store to buy an instant ticket put the Queen Anne’s County resident in line at the right time to buy the lucky scratch-off. On the very last “roll” or line in the game, the 23-year-old saw five “3s” show up in a row, resulting in the game’s top prize. The Church Hill resident drove the lucky ticket to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and claimed the prize.

The happy winner plans to put some of the funds toward student loans and save the rest. This is the first top prize claimed in the game, which launched in August. Yahtzee still has six top prizes remaining and plenty of other prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.

Sharing in the player’s celebration is the lucky Prince George’s County retailer. The 7-Eleven #11690 at 6404 Auth Road in Suitland earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
