Fort Washington resident Edgardo Antido played the winning numbers from a Philippines lottery game to win $50,000 on Bonus Match 5.
A 59-year-old Fort Washington man who won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5 can thank the Philippines lottery for his good luck.
Edgardo Antido, who is originally from the Philippines, enjoys lottery games so much he still keeps track of drawings held in his homeland. He was watching a Philippines channel on TV earlier this week and saw the winning numbers for that country’s Ultralotto game. What he did next brought him an amazing prize.
“I watched the drawing from Oct. 9 for Ultralotto and decided to use those same numbers to play Bonus Match 5,” said Edgardo.
The numbers drawn for the Philippines Ultralotto game were 3-12-16-36-38 and 46. Edgardo used those same numbers, except for 46, to play Bonus Match 5 on Oct. 10. And, guess what? He won the $50,000 top prize on the popular Maryland game.
Edgardo checked his Bonus Match 5 ticket later that night and could not believe his eyes.
“I was like, ‘Whoa,’ ” he said. “I was so shocked, I couldn’t sleep.”
The next day, the butcher was still surprised and dubious about his win. He checked and double-checked his numbers. To keep his ticket safe, Edgardo signed the back of it, put it in his wallet and went to work. The married father and grandfather told no one about his Lottery luck except a good friend who accompanied him after work to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize.
Edgardo plans to spend his windfall on a vacation and put the remainder in the bank.
The retailer that sold the winning ticket, Fort Foote Shell located at 8511 Oxon Hill in Fort Washington, is a winner, too. Because the retailer sold a top-prize ticket in the game, the gas station earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
