The daughter of a lucky Bonus Match 5 player was shocked by her mother’s shouts of joy on Saturday night, when the quick-pick numbers on her mom’s $6 ticket matched the winning numbers in the April 29 drawing.
“My mother came running down the stairs yelling, ‘I finally got them, we did it, we won!’ ” the daughter said. At first, the 41-year-old Bowie resident had no idea what her mother meant. Once she understood what all the shouting was about and they both calmed down, the two women headed out the door. They jumped in the car – still in their pajamas – and drove to the nearest gas station to scan the ticket and confirm the big win.
Her mom could not sleep all night, said the daughter, who had no such trouble. When she woke up on Sunday, the daughter downloaded the Maryland Lottery mobile app to her phone so the Prince George’s County pair could again confirm their win. The $50,000 prize will go to pay off bills and finance a trip back home to the Caribbean.
Their lucky Bowie retailer is also a winner. For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, Fairwood Café Wine & Spirits located at 12420 Fairwood Parkway will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
