Woodlawn Woman Gives Lady Luck One Last Chance

Woodlawn’s Leslie Anderson found a top-prize win with the Lady Luck scratch-off.

Claims $100,000 top prize on Lady Luck scratch-off

Leslie Anderson had played Lady Luck, one of the Maryland Lottery’s new scratch-offs, several times since it went on sale July 24 without scoring a win. Last Friday found the lucky lady at her favorite retailer, the Soda Pop Shop #8 in Baltimore, picking out a different game to play.

At the last moment, though, something told her to give the $10 Lady Luck instant ticket one more chance. That, as it turns out, was a $100,000 decision.

“I like playing the new games,” said the 47-year-old Woodlawn resident. “So, I was excited to try the Lady Luck game. After a few times, I figured out that it just wasn’t lucky for me.” Having won as much as $10,000 on a Lottery game in the past, Leslie was ready to move on to a new scratch-off. Then, that voice, that “something,” spoke to her.

“I don’t know why I got that one last ticket,” she said, “I can’t explain it.”

Seeing the match that delivered her $100,000 win gave the Lottery veteran the shivers. “I was happy and excited, of course, but also immediately nervous.”

The Baltimore County resident whispered to the store owner that she had a big winner and showed him the scratch-off. “His eyes got real big,” she said. “The employees there are friends of mine so they guided me through what to do. I was so stunned, so anxious, that it was a big help.”

Her life-changing Friday kicked off a terrific weekend for Leslie and her family. “We had a great time together. You should have seen me dancing in church on Sunday, giving all kinds of thanks.”        Lucky Leslie plans to pay off several bills and begin searching in earnest for a new home. “I’ve wanted to find a new house for a long time, but the money just wasn’t there.  Now it is.”

Also big winners are the folks at Soda Pop Shop #8. The Lottery retailer located at 1026 Ingleside Avenue will receive a $1,000 bonus. The Lady Luck game still is loaded with winning scratch-offs, including six more $100,000 top prizewinners, 15 $10,000 winners and thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
