Worchester County Roofer Nails $50,000 Scratch-off Prize

Claims first top prize on $ instant ticket

A lucky Berlin man couldn’t resist the design of one of the Maryland Lottery’s innovative tickets called the $ scratch-off. The Eastern Shore resident bought two of the $5 instant tickets and uncovered the game’s first $50,000 top prize.

The 47-year-old found his big win at Route 50 Carryout in Ocean City, where he plays Lottery games three to four times a week. The roofing company employee scratched the two instant tickets in the store. A loyal Lottery player, he has won small prizes in the past but this $50,000 prize is by far his biggest Lottery payday yet.

“I was so happy and emotional,” said the Worchester County man. He shared his great news with his wife and children, who are very excited about his Lottery luck. When asked of his plans for his winnings, the scratch-off fan said he plans to pay off his car loan and his home mortgage.

Route 50 Carryout will also benefit from its sale of a big winner. The store located at 12827 Ocean Gateway will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

The $ scratch-off went on sale in August and remains packed with prizes. Players can look for the seven additional $50,000 top prizes along with 10 $5,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
