A Baltimore resident and faithful Maryland Lottery player is celebrating a six figure windfall after winning $100,000 on the popular $100,000 Crossword 8th Edition scratch-off game.
The lucky winner, a retired grandmother, has been playing the Maryland Lottery for more than two decades. Her favorite games include Ravens-themed scratch-offs, holiday games and crossword-style tickets.
Last Thursday, during her regular stop at Oryes Liquors at 1001 East 25th Street in Baltimore, she picked up her weekly games along with a few items. After returning home and eating dinner, she settled in for her usual evening routine, scratching her tickets and scanning them on the Maryland Lottery app.
When she scanned one of the tickets, the message on the app said “Winner, take to Lottery”
“I was quite surprised and excited that I won that much money, but not surprised that I won,” she said with a laugh.
She immediately called her husband into the room to double check. The two shared a joyful moment of disbelief and celebration after confirming the stunning win.
With her prize, the winner says she plans to pay off bills and enjoy her retirement a little more comfortably. “I’m retired, so I plan to enjoy my winnings,” she said.
And while some might consider stepping back after a big win, this dedicated player has no plans to take a break from her favorite games. She’s already got her sights set on the next big prize.
For selling the winning ticket, Oryes Liquors will receive a $1,000 retailer bonus from the Maryland Lottery. The $100,000 Crossword scratch-off still has two top prizes to be won, as well as five $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
