How to Claim

Winning tickets with a value up to and including $600 may be redeemed at any Maryland Lottery retailer.

Winning tickets with a value up to and including $5,000 may be redeemed at any Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) location.

Winning tickets of any amount may be redeemed at the Maryland Lottery office located at 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore. If your ticket is valued at more than $25,000, it must be redeemed at the Lottery office. All claims at the Washington Boulevard location are by appointment only – no walk-ins. Schedule your claim appointment here.

Please allow at least 30 business days for processing any winning tickets with a value of more than $25,000.

The cashiers’ windows at Maryland casinos are able to redeem winning Lottery tickets valued up to and including $25,000. Please note that you must be at least 21 years of age to enter a Maryland casino to claim a Lottery prize. Here are the casino locations:

  • Horseshoe Casino, 1525 Russell Street in Baltimore (Baltimore City)
  • MGM National Harbor, 101 MGM National Avenue in Oxon Hill (Prince George’s County)
  • Live! Casino, 7002 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover (Anne Arundel County)
  • Ocean Downs Casino, 10218 Racetrack Road in Berlin (Worcester County)
  • Hollywood Casino, 1201 Chesapeake Overlook Parkway in Perryville (Cecil County)
  • Rocky Gap Casino, 16701 Lakeview Road NE in Flintstone (Allegany County)

 

When redeeming a prize on a ticket with a value larger than $600 you must present proof of your social security number and photo ID proof of being at least 18 years of age. Double check your photo ID and Social Security card to ensure your name is exactly the same on both documents as they need to match exactly to claim your winnings.

Acceptable forms of photo ID are:

  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Valid military ID;
  • Valid government issued ID;
  • Valid passport.

Acceptable proof of SSN / Tax ID are:

  • Original signed Social Security Card;
  • Health insurance card containing your name and social security number;
  • W-2 form or a pay stub issued by the claimant’s employer;
  • 1099 form issued by a bank or other financial institution.

Players who win large prize amounts are encouraged to claim their winnings at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Subscription prizes will be automatically paid to winners by mail.

For prizes larger than $5,000, taxes will be withheld as follows:

  • 24.0% federal tax
  • 8.75% state tax for Maryland residents
  • 8% state tax for non-Maryland residents

Prizes of $601 to $5,000 are taxable and must be reported when winners file their tax returns. For information on Lottery prizes and State or Federal tax obligations, visit marylandtaxes.gov or irs.gov, or consider speaking with a qualified tax professional.

Multi-Match will be paid as an annuity in 25 equal annual installments.

Mega Millions will be paid as an annuity with one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments.

Powerball will be paid as an annuity of 30 graduated payments over 29 years.

All jackpot prizes will be paid as an annuity unless the winner selects the “cash” payment method within 60 days of the ticket validation date, even though the winner has 182 days after the drawing to claim the jackpot prize. The “cash” payment amount will be lower than the announced jackpot prize. Variations in the announced jackpot prize may occur.

For prizes with a value larger than $5,000, taxes will be withheld as follows:

  • 24.0% Federal Tax
  • 8.75% State tax (Maryland residents)
  • 8% State Tax (non-Maryland residents)

For claims by mail of prizes larger than $600, please remember to include a copy of your photo ID to prove that you are at least 18 years of age, and a copy of a document that shows proof of your social security number.  Some acceptable forms of ID are noted above.  Please allow at least 30 business days for processing from the date the Lottery receives a claim through the mail.

Free parking is available in the Red Lot, accessible from Washington Boulevard (across from Royal Farms). Use the intercom at the entrance to the parking lot to tell the Montgomery Park security staff that you are visiting the Lottery office. Enter the building through the revolving doors and visit the reception desk.
