$250,000 Lottery Win Leaves Elkton Man Screaming in His Car

James Frazer, an Elkton native who has enjoyed playing scratch-off tickets for about 15 years, found himself screaming in his car when he realized he’d won $250,000 on the Money scratch-off.

He claimed the prize April 6 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and shared his story of winning big.

James recalls stopping at the Royal Farms store at 25 Augustine Herman Highway in Elkton, where he purchased two Money scratch-offs at $10 each. He said the ticket caught his eye because its design resembles a $100 bill. The look of the ticket was enticing enough for him to buy two.

When he got to his car, James scratched the prize check spots on both tickets and scanned them using the Maryland Lottery app. Both tickets turned out to be winners. The first ticket revealed a $50 prize, but it was that second one that pushed him over the edge, as it was a $250,000 surprise.

“I was screaming in the car! I never thought I would win this much money,” James said.

Since the win, James said he had only shared the news with a few friends who also enjoy playing the Lottery. He even encouraged them to try the Money scratch-off game since several top prizes remain.

When asked what he plans to do with his windfall, he said he hasn’t made many plans yet, but a new truck may be in his future. The rest, he said, will likely go into savings and helping family and friends.

James added that he plans to keep playing.

“It’s fun, and I’d love to claim another top prize,” he said.

The Royal Farms store receives a bonus of $1,000 for selling the top-prize winner.

The Money scratch-off launched in February and as of April 6, four $250,000 top prizes remained unclaimed, along with three $50,000 prizes, 17 prizes at the $10,000 level and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
