$30 Scratch-off Gives Germantown Mom a $100,000 Top Prize

Congratulations to “Lady T” of Germantown on her $100,000 scratch-off win.

Found Lottery win on a $100,000 Ca$h instant ticket

Avid scratch-off player “Lady T” of Germantown followed her Lottery routine to a “T” and came away with a $100,000 top-prize win on the $100,000 Ca$h game.

The loyal player tried her luck for the first time with two of the $30 $100,000 Ca$h instant tickets while at a 7-Eleven in Germantown. “I always get one Powerball, one Mega Millions and I play several of the scratchers,” she said.

The mother of three adult children stayed in the store to play her instant tickets, just as she always does. “Lady T” explained that she always scans the prize check area for a win rather than play the scratch-off.

The first scratch-off was a non-winner, she said. The machine scanning her second ticket displayed a message she had never seen before.

“I scanned it, and it said, ‘Take the ticket to the retailer.’ I scanned it again.” Getting the same message, she took the instant ticket to a store clerk and asked her to check it. The clerk then gave “Lady T” the paper from the terminal, which is when she realized it was worth $100,000.

The Montgomery County resident took her lucky scratch-off and drove to her sister’s house, calling her in advance.

“I said, ‘Open the garage. Come downstairs now,’” Lady T recalled, and showed the winning scratch-off to her sister as soon as she arrived at her house. “She was like, ‘Oh my goodness!’”

Not knowing what to do next, the women went online to mdlottery.com for answers on how to claim the prize. “Lady T” wanted to keep her $100,000-winning scratch-off safe until her appointment at Lottery headquarters so she hid the instant ticket in her sock drawer.

She plans to pay bills with her prize and may add some of the funds to an already planned January milestone birthday celebration. Her destination party will feature sun, surf and sand. The $100,000 prize is her biggest yet, said “Lady T,” far larger than her previous top score of $500.

Also a winner is her Montgomery County Lottery retailer. For its role in selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, 7-Eleven #39789 located at 12301 Middlebrook Road in Germantown earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

“Lady T” left 53 $100,000 top prizes remaining in the $100,000 Ca$h game, along with 31 $5,000 prizes and others ranging from $30 to $500. The popular scratch-off went on sale in September 2023 and is one of five $30 scratch-offs in the Lottery’s lineup.
