The Powerball jackpot is rolling along at $716 million and a Maryland player in Adelphi caught some of the fun Monday night, missing the jackpot by a single number on the Double Play drawing but matching enough for a $50,000 win.
The third-tier winner was sold at the Shell Food Mart at 7430 Riggs Road in Prince George’s County. Time to check those tickets. The winning numbers for the Double Play drawing on Oct. 26 are: 5, 11, 14, 24, 59, and a Powerball of 8.
The player added the $1 Double Play option, which makes a single Powerball play good for both the jackpot Powerball drawing and a second Double Play drawing about half an hour later. The top prize for the Double Play drawing is always $10 million, with a second-tier prize of $1 million and a third-tier prize of $50,000.
The Adelphi winner matched four of the first five numbers drawn, plus the Powerball in the Double Play drawing.
The Lottery encourages the winners to sign the backs of their tickets and keep them in a safe location. All players have 182 days after the date of the drawing to claim the prize.
Instructions for claiming prizes are available on the How to Claim page of the Lottery website. Prizes of more than $25,000 must be claimed through Lottery headquarters, either in person or by mail. Lottery headquarters is in the Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330, in Baltimore. An appointment is required to claim in person (no walk-ins). The appointment scheduling page shows all available appointment times.
The next Powerball drawing is set for Wednesday, Oct. 28 with an estimated jackpot annuity value of $712 million with the one-time payment option of $307.2 million. The jackpot was last hit on Aug. 12.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights with a jackpot that starts at $20 million and grows after each drawing in which the jackpot is not won.
Tickets have a base price of $2 and are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom. Five winning numbers are drawn from a range of 1 to 69, along with one winning Powerball number from a range of 1 to 26.
