That Powerball is starting to bounce higher again after a billion-dollar-plus jackpot hit on Christmas Eve, and, with the jackpot now past $100 million, an Eastern Shore player hit for a $50,000 Double Play win in the Jan. 6 drawing.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Sunoco Truck Stop at 400 Thompson Creek Road, near the Bay Bridge in Stevensville. Winning numbers Jan. 5 on the Double Play drawing, held about half an hour after the main Powerball drawing, are: 15, 22, 39, 41, 62 and a Powerball of 9.
Powerball tickets cost $2, with drawings held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights. Powerball Double Play is a separate drawing held 30 minutes after each Powerball drawing. Players can add the Double Play option to their Powerball tickets for an additional $1, making their $3 ticket eligible for both the Powerball drawing and the Double Play drawing.
The jackpot for the Jan. 7 drawing has reached $105 million. A winning $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot was hit on Christmas Eve in Arkansas, but there are still many unclaimed second and third tier winners in Maryland.
Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Both the Powerball and Double Play drawings have nine prize tiers, with Powerball prizes ranging from $4 up to the jackpot and Double Play prizes ranging from $7 to $10 million.
