Routine shopping excursions usually involve buying a ticket or two, and this time it pays big
A federal employee from Crofton who is facing being laid off said the timing of a $100,000 win on the Maryland Lottery’s Mega Bucks scratch-off ticket came couldn’t have been better.
“It came at a perfect time,” she said Feb. 21 after claiming the prize. “This gives me a lot of peace of mind, and that’s priceless. I’m so thankful.”
She says she plans to put the money in savings until she needs it or her life situation stabilizes.
The winner often buys Lottery tickets when she is shopping or running errands as a bit of an amusing diversion. In the past, she’s won small amounts, mostly $5 and $10 prizes.
“I don’t think I’ve ever won more than $25,” she said.
She says playing the Lottery is an enjoyable experience and she will continue playing going forward.
She bought the winning ticket at the Walmart store at 7081 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover, which receives a bonus of $1,000.
The Mega Bucks top tier prize was the third of nine that were available when the game went on sale on Nov. 27, 2024. Another six at the $100,000 level remain unclaimed, along with eight $50,000 prizes and 23 at the $10,000 level.
