Harford County Man Wins $50,000 on FAST PLAY, Optimistic About Another Big Score

For a Lottery player from Harford County, the J’s have it. In January he won $5,000 and in July he hit for $50,000, both times on FAST PLAY games.

“The next one’s going to be a million!” he said July 15 when he claimed his $50,000 prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

A retired firefighter who lives in the Bel Air area, he is keeping the win a close-held secret. He hasn’t even told his grown children. With the winnings, he and his wife are likely to enjoy one of their favorite leisure time activities: going on a cruise.

For his big win, the player bought a $10 FAST PLAY Lucky Numbers ticket on July 11 out of the same machine where he bought a $5,000 winner on New Years Day of this year. The machine is the one in the Royal Farms store at 1526 Rock Spring Road in Forest Hill. The Lucky Numbers game is a progressive jackpot ticket and $50,000 is the game’s second-tier prize. As of July 15, the progressive jackpot was at nearly $109,000.

Meanwhile, he’s confident about his prospects for another big win. Though July, the last J-month of 2025, is half over, he also abides by the theory that good things happen in threes. As such, he’s pondering the prospects of winning a second-tier Mega Millions or Powerball prize, which would give him that $1 million score.

“I’ll take that second tier. That’s plenty of money for me,” he said.

The Lottery Week Promotion runs through July 20. Anyone who buys a draw or FAST PLAY ticket has the chance of winning a second free FAST PLAY ticket, or a free ticket for a draw game such as Cash4Life or Pick 3.
