Cumberland Retiree Takes Home $100,000 Scratch-off Prize

A retired school bus driver from Allegany County took the long drive to Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore to claim a top prize on the $100,000 Crossword game.

The Cumberland resident was running errands when she took a break to play some of her favorite Lottery games. She stopped at the Sheetz store in Corriganville and bought three $10 $100,000 Crossword tickets. Instead of scratching off the play area on the popular tickets, the winner scanned them one by one to see if she won. The third ticket showed a special message. The lucky lady saw a congratulatory message alerting her that she won a $100,000 prize.

“I was shocked,” said the big winner. “I gave it to the cashier for a second opinion.” The deal was sealed as she was holding a top prize-winning ticket.

The fortunate player immediately called to share the news with her husband before going home and scratching off the entire game.

“It’s so easy to miss something and I just wanted to see how I won,” she smiled when relaying her story to Lottery officials while claiming he prize.

She plans to share some of the winnings with her husband before paying off some bills, and will save the rest.

This $100,000 win on the $100,000 Crossword game is the second claimed this week. A Baltimore retiree claimed his prize earlier this week.

The Sheetz store at 100 E. Main Street in Corriganville also wins. The Lottery retailer will collect a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is 1% of the prize value.
