Caroline County Man Casts Rod, Hooks $100,000 Prize

An avid fisherman from Caroline County reeled in his biggest catch yet, a $100,000 scratch-off prize. The lucky player can thank the $100,000 Cash ticket for his top prize win.

The Goldsboro player stopped in the Centreville Citgo over the weekend to play some of his favorite games. He prefers scratch-offs and looks at the prizes remaining on the website before selecting a game. On this visit, he chose the $100,000 Cash ticket because it began with over 60 top prizes. In addition, the Citgo owner suggested he buy that ticket because he had a feeling his store was carrying the big winner.

“He believed he was one of the few retailers that was still carrying the ticket,” said the construction worker. “And that a big winner could be in his store.”

So, the fortunate player purchased the ticket and two other scratch-offs and went home to play them. Luck was definitely on his side.

“The first two I scratched, I got my money back,” said the shocked winner. “The third one was the $100,000 win… I was dumbfounded.”

The Eastern Shore resident, who claimed his prize on October 14 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, told Lottery Officials that he “had never seen that many zeroes on a scratch-off prize ever.” A love for fishing, he knew exactly what he was going to do with the prize money.

“I’m going to go on a fishing trip and take my mom on a vacation,” he shared.

He said he also plans to pay off some debt.

The $100,000 Cash scratch-off launched in 2023 with 65 $100,000 top prizes and 47 remain. There are also hundred of thousand of prizes from $30 to $5,000 waiting to be found.

Also celebrating in this win is the retailer that sold the winning ticket. Centreville Citgo, located at 426 South Commerce Street in Centreville will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top prize-winning ticket.
