The wife of a recent big winner had a great idea when the two were celebrating his birthday at home. She suggested that after dinner, they go buy some Lottery tickets. That suggestion led to a $50,000 win on a $30 Ace of Spades scratch-off.
Earlier this month, the two visited the US Fuel at 6100 Moravia Park Drive in Baltimore to play their favorite games.
“My wife played Racetrax, but I decided on scratch-offs,” the Baltimore City resident said.
He purchased a few tickets, won $50 and used the winnings to purchase more tickets including the $30 Ace of Spades. The soon-to-be-retired cook scratched the ticket’s bonus area first and was curious about the 100X symbol that was revealed.
“I scratched the other part of the ticket and kept matching the winning numbers,” he smiled. “My jaw dropped when I added it all up.”
The fortunate player’s winnings equaled $500, and with the 100X multiplier, he had a $50,000 winner. In shock, the birthday boy scanned the ticket to confirm the win.
“I showed my wife and thanked her for suggesting we go play the Lottery on my birthday,” said the scratch-off fan when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore earlier this week. “I’m just so grateful.”
He plans to use the winnings to make some home improvements and maybe get a new car.
The Ace of Spades scratch-off launched in September with three $2 million top prizes, all of which remain. The Baltimore player claimed the first $50,000 second-tier prize, which leaves two of those remaining. Many other prizes are still available ranging from $30 to $5,000.
Also celebrating is the Baltimore City retailer that sold the winning ticket. US Fuel will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
