PG County Man Wins A $50,000 Mosaic Money Scratch-off Top Prize

A Prince George’s County man is celebrating after claiming a $50,000 top prize on the Mosaic Money scratch-off. The player, who has been trying his hand at Lottery games for two years, visited Lottery headquarters Nov. 25 to claim his winnings and tell of the exciting moment when he realized he had won.

The winner says he fell in love with scratch-offs early in his playing journey after winning several prizes worth a few hundred dollars. Those early wins kept him motivated.

“If I can win small, I know I can win big,” he said after claiming.

That confidence paid off when he stopped at the Gulf gas station at 6211 Livingston Road in Oxon Hill and the $5 Mosaic Money scratch-off caught his eye. As he began scratching, he initially believed he had no winners. But on the second to last ticket of a multi-ticket purchase, everything changed.

“When I scratched the ticket, I knew it was something,” he recalled. Then he scanned the ticket and got the message, “See Retailer.” He grew nervous because he had never seen that prompt before. When the retailer scanned the ticket, it was confirmed he had a $50,000 top prize winner.

He was stunned.

As of Nov. 25, he had shared the good news only with close family. Although he has not celebrated yet, he already knows how he plans to use his windfall: helping his loved ones. Looking ahead, he hopes to win another top prize or encourage family members to play and enjoy a big win of their own.

For selling a top-prize-winning scratch-off, the Gulf station in Oxon Hill receives a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

The $5 Mosaic Money scratch-off debuted in March of this year. Three of the ticket’s eight $50,000 top prizes remain unclaimed. In addition, there are three $5,000 prizes remaining and thousands of prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000 still up for grabs.
