Henry Groulx put Ravens X10 scratch-offs in his Christmas stocking and ended up stuffing his pockets with $50,000 in prize money.
Washington County resident Henry Groulx bought his own stocking stuffer this holiday season and it stuffed his pockets with $50,000 in Maryland Lottery winnings.
Being a Baltimore Ravens fan and Lottery scratch-off enthusiast, it made sense that he would gift himself a few $10 Ravens X10 scratch-offs. One of them happened to be a $50,000 second-tier prize winner.
Henry purchased his tickets, including the winner, at the AC&T convenience store at 22507 Jefferson Boulevard in Smithsburg.
He was at home in his living room on Christmas morning opening gifts when he decided to check his scratch-offs. He scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app and the message that popped up seemed a little too good to be true, he said Dec. 30 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The message said to take the ticket to the Lottery, an indication of a big winner. To double check, Henry took it a step further and went back to the retailer to scan the ticket in store, where he got the message that he had a $50,000 payday in his future.
It was a perfect gift to one’s self, and Henry couldn’t believe it. Upon claiming, he said the reality of the situation hadn’t sunk in. As such, he hadn’t made any plans for his winnings. For the meantime, he’s going to continue work as a federal government employee, working on cars in his home garage and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens X10 scratch-off ticket launched in August. There are still several prizes remaining on this ticket, including two $200,000 top prizes, two $50,000 second-tier prizes and tens of thousands of smaller prizes.
Non-winning Ravens X10 and Ravens X5 tickets can be entered into My Lottery Rewards to be entered into the Ravens second-chance promotion. The final entry deadline is Jan. 4.
