It wasn’t his first time winning big money playing the Maryland Lottery, but buying a scratch-off worth $50,000 still caught a Fort Washington man off guard.
“Yeah, I was surprised. And the guy in the store was surprised he sold me one that big,” the winner said Aug. 5 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
His win came on the $5 Multiply Your Money ticket, which has been on sale since June. The $50,000 top prize claimed by the Fort Washington winner is the third of seven, leaving another four at that level unclaimed.
The win is the second at the $50,000 level for the winner, as he collected a like amount in July of 2015 on Diamonds and Dollars scratch-off.
More than a decade later, he reports he still has possession of a portion of the winnings from that ticket. He used part of the money to buy a new car and the rest has been in the bank ever since.
With his most recent win, he plans a similar split. He’s got a home improvement project in mind, and a family member who could use a lift. Once those expenses are cleared, though, the rest will go in the bank
As for winning a third time, he says he’s going to try.
He bought his most recent big winning ticket at Brother Liquors at 12788-B Old Fort Road in Fort Washington. The store receives a bonus of $500 for selling the ticket.
