“AA County Man,” who won $50,000 playing Pick 5 two years ago, won the same amount on the July 5 drawing.
Regular player ‘strikes again’ using a friend’s birthday digits
An Anne Arundel County man did it in 2022, he did it again this year, and he expects to do it again, with “it” being win $50,000 on the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game.
“Just put, ‘AA County Man strikes again!’” he said July 11 after claiming a $50,000 prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He was familiar with the process because he won the same amount in June of 2022 on two 50-cent Pick 5 tickets – $25,000 each – but this time he won the full $50,000 on a single $1 ticket.
Asked if he thinks he thinks he will win big again, he said, “As long as I got faith and belief! I realize every draw can win.”
The man, who is going by the alias “AA County Man” to spin his winning yarn without revealing his identity, played a friend’s birthday on a single $1 straight bet ticket for the evening drawing on July 5, and that’s exactly what hit.
While his mantra that each draw can be a win is true, he recognizes the reality that not all of them are – even for someone who has had the good fortune to win twice in two years.
Though excited about winning, his reaction upon checking his winning ticket was pretty low-key.
“I said, ‘Oh wow,’” he recalls. His plans for the money are similarly mundane: “I’m going to put it in savings.”
A savings account will be a good place for “AA County Man’s” winnings, as he plans to keep the windfall a secret.
Meanwhile, the Safeway grocery store at 1781 Forest Drive in Annapolis is fine with everyone knowing that’s where the hot ticket was sold. The store receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize amount.
