Vamil and Mita Patel, of Atlantic City, N.J., were all smiles after claiming a $50,000 Maryland Lottery prize.
As a table games casino dealer from Atlantic City, Mita Patel said doesn’t get excited about big wins, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t thrilled when she and her husband Vimal won $50,000 on the $5 Winning Streak scratch-off.
Mita and Vimal claimed the prize April 17 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and told their winning story.
“Sometimes when we’re happy we play $30 or $40 on tickets, just for the enjoyment,” Vimal said, adding that they have occasionally won amounts as high as $500 along with prizes of $50 or $100.
Recently, the two were visiting Mita’s relatives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore when they stopped at Friendship Food Mart at 10709 Grays Corner Road in Berlin and bought the ticket that delivered their biggest win.
They have no specific plans for the prize beyond putting the money in the bank.
Also having a chance to bank some extra cash is Friendship Food Mart, which receives a bonus of $500 for selling the ticket.
Winning Streak went on sale Feb. 6 with seven top prizes of $50,000. Four of those prizes remain unclaimed as of April 17 along with thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
