Baltimore City Man Causally Picks up $50,000 Prize on Pick 5

By winning $50,000 on Pick 5, a Baltimore City man proved it’s not necessary to buy tickets and play every day.

“I play on and off. Every once and a while, I might buy a ticket when I am at the gas station,” the retired construction worker said July 23 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters.

He chose the right day to play when his favorite five-digit number, 98701, was selected in the midday drawing on June 21.

He explained he went to the store to scan his ticket and his eyes lighted up when he saw his numbers were drawn.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said with a smile.

The big winner said he keeps himself busy during his retirement with jigsaw puzzles and now has some extra cash that he can add to his bank account.

“I’m going to pinch it. I’m not going to spend any of it,” he said.

The winning ticket was sold at the Sunoco at 4719 York Road in Baltimore. For selling the $50,000 winner, the gas station will receive a 1 percent bonus of $500.
