Baltimore County Man Uses Tips to Win First $100K Prize on Scratch & Match

A Baltimore County man is the first $100,000 top prize winner on the new scratch-off game Scratch & Match, and he credits his tip money.

He scratched half his ticket and saw he had an “autowin” of $50,000. The delivery driver thought he won $50,000 and was ready to cash in, but he had completed only half of his winning journey.

“I decided to scratch off the rest of the ticket for fun and saw there was another $50,000,” he said April 6 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The winner said he has used a lucky coin over the years to scratch tickets, but in this case, he ended up using an alternative coin to reveal his prize.

“I had a lucky coin, but I lost it,” he said.

He plans using his winnings to pay off his car and will put the rest in the bank.

The western Baltimore County resident said he likes to play responsibly and only uses tip money from driving. He said he never withdraws money to purchase lottery tickets.

The winning ticket was purchased at Lansdowne Citgo at 2810 Hammonds Ferry Road in Halethorpe. The gas station receives a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Scratch & Match went on sale March 20 with nine top prizes of $100,000. Eight top prizes remain unclaimed along with two second-tier prizes of $50,000 each. There are also thousands of lower-tier prizes remaining ranging from $10 to $10,000.
