Baltimore Lottery Regular Scores $50,000 Playing Old License Number

Pick 5 ticket yields a prize in July drawing

A devoted Maryland Lottery player from Baltimore picked up a $50,000 prize after playing an old license plate number for the July 26 midday Pick 5 drawing.

“I never thought I would hit the five-digit (prize),” she said on Aug. 30 while claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Indeed, at first, she didn’t think she had won. She checked her $1 straight bet ticket using the Maryland Lottery app on her smartphone. Not trusting the initial report of being a big winner, she checked her ticket again. Then, the 43-year-old told her mom about her lucky ticket, saying, “I think I really hit the Lottery big.”

Her mom didn’t believe her – at first. Now, of course, the winner’s happy about the prize, saying she’ll use it to pay off a few bills, get her car ready for winter and do some nice things for her three children and one grandchild.

A regular Lottery player, the lucky lady has picked up prizes of $5,000 “here and there” and enjoys playing Keno, Pick 3, 4 and 5 as well as Mega Millions. She has a few places where she buys tickets including Food Stop Mini Mart at 2415 Frederick Road in Baltimore, where she bought her hot Pick 5 ticket. The Baltimore City store receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling the lucky ticket.
