Baltimore Man Enters Winner Circle With $31,233 Racetrax Win

An occasional Lottery player who just wanted a snack went into a convenience store and ended up leaving with not only the snack but also a $31,233 win on the popular game Racetrax.

Edwin Sosa was on his way home from work March 21 when Lottery luck shined on him. The auto body technician stopped at the Xpress Mart in Pikesville for a drink and some snacks, but also decided to play Racetrax. He placed a trifecta bet for the long-odds horses 12, 10 and 11 to cross the finish line in that exact order, and they did.

Edwin was shocked as he watched.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said the big winner. “I didn’t even check the scanner at the store, I just raced home.”

At home the happy player used the Maryland Lottery app on his phone to confirm his win and determine how much he won. He was greeted with a congratulatory message that showed he won $31,233.

After sharing the news with a few family members and letting the big win marinate, the player visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore April 8 to claim his prize.

Edwin shared with Lottery officials he plans to buy a car with his winnings and will save the rest.

The Baltimore resident purchased the winning Racetrax ticket at Xpress Mart at 200 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville. The Lottery retailer will collect a $312.33 bonus.
