Baltimore Man Follows Friend’s Lead, Wins $100,000 Scratch-off Prize

A proud Baltimore resident was quick to thank a friend for a sequence of events that led him to the Winner’s Circle Room at Maryland Lottery Headquarters. When his friend recently won a Lottery prize of a few thousand dollars, it inspired him to play.

“Growing up in Baltimore, I remember everyone playing the Lottery, it was just a part of the culture,” he said. “When my friend won, I figured I’d give it a try and see what happens.”

His decision paid off in a big way. After finishing a long work shift, he stopped at the Royal Farms at 2050 Fleet Street in Baltimore and picked up a handful of scratch-offs. He decided to scratch them while he was still at the store, and he found two winners in the bunch. One of them delivered a $5 prize, and the other was an amount that stunned him: a $100,000 win on the $10 Ice ticket.

“I couldn’t believe it. I rushed home right away to tell my wife and mother,” he said.

Wasting no time, the lucky winner scheduled his appointment to claim the prize and visited the Lottery’s office on June 2 along with his wife. The couple already has big plans for their windfall starting with paying bills and setting up a college fund for their son.

Also celebrating is the Baltimore City Royal Farms location, which will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.

Ice arrived in stores on April 21, and as of June 3, four of its $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed, along with seven $50,000 prizes, 17 prizes of $10,000 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
