Baltimore Mom Wins $50,000 While Riding the Bus to Work

Starting out your day with a $50,000 scratch-off win is a tough secret to keep but Brenda Lee of Baltimore did it!

Her love of crosswords lands her the top prize in Deluxe Crossword game

Imagine winning $50,000 on your way to work, but having to hold in all of that excitement! That’s what happened to Brenda Lee. The Baltimore City resident headed to her job after purchasing a Deluxe Crossword 7th Edition scratch-off. As she started to play the game on the bus, she realized she won its top prize.

“I was excited, but didn’t want to tell anyone at my job,” Brenda said.

The 59-year-old is a transportation worker and said she will use the money to “straighten out her bills.” She also plans to give some of her winnings to her adult children.

Brenda said she likes to complete crossword puzzles as it helps kill time as she rides the bus to work each day. The Deluxe Crossword game’s extended-play feature is what she loves about the instant ticket. She gets to complete two crossword puzzles on each scratch-off and has the opportunity to win cash.

The goal of the game is to match as many words as possible. Our lucky lady matched four black words and four red words for the $50,000 top prize.

“I kept looking at the puzzle and could not believe that I won $50,000,” Brenda added.

She bought the winning scratch-off at R & R Convenient and Deli at 812 Guilford Avenue in Baltimore City. The store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.

This 7th edition of the $5 Deluxe Crossword game went on sale on Sept. 19 and Brenda is the first top-prize winner. Seven more top prizes remain along with all 14 $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
