Baltimore Scratch-off Fan Second in Family to Celebrate Big Win

Great-grandmother finds $50,000 top prize on Ca$h Plu$ game

Her daughter couldn’t believe her ears when she heard her mom say over the phone that she had won $50,000 playing a Ca$h Plu$ scratch-off.

“She was like, ‘Mom, stop lying,’” the Baltimore mother recalled, smiling. Her daughter, who accompanied her mother to Lottery headquarters when she claimed the game’s top prize, was dubious that Lottery luck could strike twice in the same house. They live together and the daughter had won a $100,000 Lottery prize in 2021.

But her mother did indeed win, bringing home the largest prize of her life “at 75 years old,” she announced. She has enjoyed playing scratch-offs and winning small prizes here and there for many years. What is the loyal player’s lucky strategy? She buys new games.

The city resident followed her routine and bought a few Ca$h Plu$ scratch-offs at Bermuda Bar & Liquor in Baltimore. As she scratched her way through the instant tickets, the great-grandmother first won a $50 prize. When the time came to scratch off the final instant ticket, she revealed a matching number and a big win.

“It said it was $50,000,” the winner recalled. She held back her excitement, however, until confirming her newfound fortune by scanning the game’s prize check area using her Lottery app. Only then did she place the phone call to her daughter! The winner has no plans yet for her windfall, saying she wanted to get the check in hand before considering her options.

The Ca$h Plu$ game went on sale in August with seven top prizes; five remain. Other prizes in this game range from $5 to $5,000.

Also celebrating her luck is the Lottery retailer that sold the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. Bermuda Bar & Liquor, located at 1801 East North Avenue in Baltimore, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in the sale.
